1914 Vauxhall ‘Prince Henry’ Sports Torpedo is considered the first ‘sports car’

For over 46 years, the 1914 Vauxhall 25hp ‘Prince Henry’ Sports Torpedo was owned by one owner – Laurence Pomeroy Jnr. Sold recently at an auction at Bond Street, London for £516,700 (MYR2,864,702) including premium, it is acclaimed as the first true sports car in the world.
As the flagship car, its strikingly attractive styling and presentation had always drawn the largest admiring crowds on tours organised by its owner. It demands significant stature and is indeed uniquely built by established figures from the motoring world including Pomeroys Senior and Junior, Heal, Chambers, Clutton, Ridley and Long.
Its outstanding provenance provides a lasting heritage – a monumental piece from the past to the present. It is worthily taking its place high on the stage of the Worlds Great Cars – not only on the concours d’elegance lawns but in long distance motoring events where it will surely prove its Edwardian sporting credentials.

The 89th Academy Awards ceremony, once again, made headlines for a very different reasons this year when La La Land was incorrectly announced as the Best Picture, before Moonlight was clarified to be the winner two minutes after. Televised by ABC in the United States and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the first time, it also saw Moonlight, the first film with an all-black cast to win three awards, including Best Picture. La La Land won the most awards at the ceremony with six after receiving 14 nominations. Hacksaw Ridge and Manchester by the Sea won two awards each. Winners with one award include Arrival, and Where to Find Them, Fences, The Jungle Book, O.J. : Made in America, Piper, The Salesman, Sing, Suicide Squad, The White Helmets, and Zootopia. Emma Stone won Best Actress in La La Land and Casey Affleck as Best Actor in Manchester by the Sea.
